ADD ADHD Treatment Options

ADD ADHD Treatment Options By Mary Asomah...

ADD ADHD is a condition that affects a child's ability to pay attention, staying focused and concentrate.

A child with ADD ADHD has difficulty taking turns and following directions, is often impulsive and appears to be constantly active and on the move; to the point where there is adverse affects on their life, both socially and academically.

Finding the best ADD/ADHD treatment for a child with ADD ADHD can help that child lead a happier and more productive life.

Choosing the Best ADD ADHD Treatment Plan

When considering the best ADD/ADHD treatment for a child, a doctor will take a number of things into consideration, such as the severity of the child's ADD ADHD behaviour, and the degree at which it is affecting the child's life, socially and academically.

The doctor typically consults with the child's parents, as well as the child's teachers and other adults who have frequent contact with the child.

Because ADD ADHD affects children in varying degrees, and children may be challenged with some ADD ADHD behaviours but not all behaviours in the ADHD spectrum, it is important to custom design an ADD/ADHD treatment that meets the individual needs of the child.

This often means that the best ADD/ADHD treatment is a combination of ADD ADHD treatments.

Medically Prescribed ADD/ADHD Treatment

Some prescribed medical stimulants have been shown to provide affective ADD/ADHD treatment for many children battling ADD ADHD.

The medication acts as a stimulant that controls the child's hyperactivity and impulse behaviours. Medically prescribed ADD ADHD treatments have also shown to affectively increase a child's attention span and ability to concentrate.

Medically prescribed ADD/ADHD treatments include the use of Ritalin, Adderall, Methylin, Metadate, Focalin and Dexedrine.

Some doctors have prescribed the antidepressant drug Wellbutrin as an ADD/ADHD treatment.

Psychological ADD/ADHD Treatment

A number of psychosocial therapies have been proven to provide affective ADD/ADHD treatment.

Depending on the severity of a child's ADD ADHD condition, the child may be able to use pschological treatment as their sole ADD/ADHD treatment, or they may use a combination of psychological ADD/ADHD treatments with medically prescribed ADD/ADHD treatment.

Common pschological ADD/ADHD treatment includes...
