Mardi Gras crafts for kids are a productive way to make use of your kids' time.
As culture dictates, Mardi Gras Season or day is a festive season before the ritual fasting of the Lenten Season.
Typically practiced in New Orleans, one of the significant aspects of the festival is the wearing of masks and costumes.
During this time, kids can enjoy working on these beautiful crafts in taking part of the culture or for plainly recreational purposes, and even for money making!
That is correct Mardi Gras is not only for adults' night parties and parades, it is also about kids partaking and enjoying it.
Mardi Gras crafts for kids can be of various items.
Common ones are masks, beads and crowns.
Today, these two will be tackled here and some other crafts your kids can create.
Masks are the most common and probably the easiest Mardi Gras crafts for kids.
A kid may need coloured cards preferably the colours mentioned earlier.
White card and a selection of paints or crayons can be added to add a vibrant impression on the mask.
They may also need some beads, ribbons, sequins, glitters, feathers or anything that they may add to decorate.
Of course, glue, strings for fastening and hole punch are needed to finish the mask.
You may have to cut out the basic mask shape for kids and allow them to finish the job of decorating it.
This makes the masks one of the easiest Mardi Gras crafts for kids.
It is best to encourage your kid to make it a lot fancy.
You may allow them to decorate according to their age and ability. Most kids are proud to wear their self-created crowns.
A kid may need to have gold cards about 3 inches wide and long enough to go around the head.
Feathers are favourite part of the mix as well as some sparkly bits, including glitters, sequins and so on.
Glue, sticky tape or stapler can be used to hold the crown together.
You just have to lay the card and make sure they form a good crown for your kids.
You then allow them to create their own style and once again encourage them to make it as fabulous as they can.
The festival is alive because people basically make noise all over the street.
Why not let your kids join in the fun by letting them create noisemaker crafts.
Mardi Gras cup shakers needs two polystyrene cups, paints usually green and purple then some accessories or stickers of coloured gold.
Tape is needed and rice or dried beans are placed inside to create the noise.
This one is pretty easy to make and you allow them to create the cup shaker on their own, with just a little help in assembling.
Once ready, your kids are ready to roll outside with their crowns, masks and some noisemakers!
There are more Mardi Gras craft for kids out there.
Let your kids create these various crafts and enjoy the festival!
