Stretch Marks After Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a wonderful event in your life but stretch marks after pregnancy may really change your story.

Based on many facts, most pregnant women would experience stretch marks.

They generally appear with reddish or sometimes purplish around area such as your stomach, buttocks, breasts, hips, and even arms.

If you have a light skin, these marks usually have a tendency to be pinkish. While in dark skin, they would seem lighter.

Either way, they are clearly visible and make less confident for most women.

These ugly marks are formed due to the separation of collagen inside your skin. Although painless, they can occasionally cause itching.

Additionally, the stretching of your skin might result in a tingling sensation.

Although you can cope with the itchiness and tingling with a good lotion usage, but you will not be able to stop the occurrence of stretch marks after pregnancy.

They will still appear no matter how much lotion you will use to prevent them.

Causes of Stretch Marks

Here are some factors that are more likely to trigger the occurrence of stretch marks...

Drastic Weight Gain
When you are pregnant your appetite will go up, it's normal.

But if you are out of control, your body weight will increase drastically and this will trigger the occurrence of these marks.

Skin Hydration
If the moisture level of your skin is good, your skin will be healthy and elastic.

It makes sense, your skin can be easier to stretch so that it will be able to avoid the occurrence of these marks.

Heredity
If you come from the descendants of people who have stretch marks, then more likely you would also experience these marks.

Stretch marks after pregnancy can't be helped as these are scars inevitably left behind by pregnancy.

Giving birth is a miracle in itself however as blemishes often cause insecurity in one's physical appearance, it is important to know how to remove stretch marks and how to prevent having them in the future.

How To Get Rid of Stretch Marks

Drink Lots of Water
Being hydrated helps improve your skin and generally prevents blemishes from forming or scars from darkening.

Drinking at least 10 glasses of water daily ensures that your skin stays healthy.

Eat Foods Rich in Protein, Zinc, Vitamins A and C
If your diet is healthy, naturally, so is your body. There are foods that are great in getting rid of skin blemishes.

Keep Your Skin Moisturised
A popular scar problem remedy especially among pregnant women is shea butter.

You can us a cream with this ingredient and add essential oils and vitamins for effective scar-healing.

You can also look for creams that are specifically created to diminish scars.

Take Vitamins A, C and E
These are essential vitamins to improve and rejuvenate your skin.

Vitamin E especially contributes to bring back the healthy glow in your skin.

Exercise Regularly
Though this can be tiring and may take up lots of your time, and of course this prospect may not be appealing to you if you have just given birth, this helps greatly in battling stretch marks.

Not to mention it brings back your figure.

Exfoliate Daily
Exfoliation removes external dead skin cells and this will allow any lotion or cream penetrate the top layer of your skin more quickly.

The reason this is important is because stretch marks actually occur in the underlying layers of your skin and in order to get rid of them it is essential to target the problem.

Another bonus to exfoliation is increased circulation to the affected area. This will also aid in the healing process.

Use A Cream
This is absolutely a must if you are trying to get rid of your stretch marks.

Without a cream or lotion that was specifically formulated to remove them, chances of them going away are very slim.

Your skin requires certain compounds in order to repair itself and to decrease the deep furrows associated with severe stretch marks.

These compounds are elastin and collagen. Neither of these will be found together in the same cream unless you purchase a cream specific to repair and removal.

Once you have chosen an appropriate cream for your needs, remember to apply as directed and be religious about it.

Don't expect results overnight, but if you are patient and diligent you will achieve great results.

Microdermabrasion
If you have had no luck after a prolonged trial with a stretch mark cream, you could try microdermabrasion, where the top layer of your skin is removed using chemicals or equipment.

Some women have claimed complete removal of their stretch marks after a few microdermabrasion treatments.

Laser Therapy
This may seem a bit drastic, but if you are feeling extremely self conscious about your stretch marks, then this may be the treatment for you.

It is very effective and will heal your skin but it is also very expensive and requires multiple trips to the dermatologist.

Whatever method you end up choosing, remember that stretch marks didn't appear overnight and they don't disappear overnight either.

But over time, with the correct treatment, you can definitely get rid of them after pregnancy.
